How To Clean Glass Ashtray

When sat puffing away comfortably, a dirty ashtray is harmless in the moment, but after a while, the stale smoke and smell will start to linger. The indulgent smell of your cigar will, sadly, be no more.

The residue can seep into the furniture and features, which would involve much more effort to clean and extract the smell of the stale smoke, which you can potentially become nose blind to after a while.

An easy solution for this is to regularly clean out your ashtray. This simple guide will give you an array of useful information to maintain your smoking room.

Before we get stuck in, it's worth noting that many cleaning solutions and agents will work when cleaning out your ashtray, but we only recommend using the suitable ones we have selected for the particular material of your ashtray.

Porcelain

Porcelain ashtrays should be cleaned gently and dried with a soft, clean towel. When cleaning a porcelain ashtray, you should only really use soap and warm water with a non-abrasive sponge.

Melamine

Melamine, otherwise recognised as a much more durable, heat resistant plastic or acrylic, has such a high endurance that it is almost unbreakable.

Melamine ashtrays can be cleaned using almost any cleaning agent, this includes soap and water, disinfectant wipes or even the dishwasher, although there is a potential chance the design may fade when washed with a dishwasher.

Ceramic

Ceramic is a common but classic material used for ashtrays. Ceramic ashtrays should be cleaned with warm water, dish soap and a non-abrasive sponge. You can also wipe down ceramic ashtray with disinfectant wipes.

Although some ceramic may be placed in a dishwasher, not all are dishwasher safe due to the intense heat. It's best to double-check if your ceramic ashtray has been treated and is dishwasher safe.

Glass & Crystal

If you own a glass or crystal ashtray, we recommend using a soft sponge with some soap and water.

Some glass trays can feature branded artwork or applied cigar logos, these can be susceptible to being washed off in a dishwasher or from an abrasive cleaning agent.

If you are inclined to use bleach wipes, we would recommend avoiding them for glass and crystal ashtrays as they can leave streaks.

Chrome

For chrome ashtrays, plain dish soap and water is your best option.

Due to the pressure of a dishwasher, it can erode the finish of chrome, and bleach wipes may leave streaks.

Here at Havana House, we have a great array of ashtrays available in a number of different materials including porcelain, obsidian, stainless steel and more!

I have been a cigar aficionado for the past 15 years, I love nothing more than researching new products, brands and all things cigar!
