How To Keep Our Country Clean
We are all aware of the fact that we need to keep our earth clean and green. But how often do we play our part? While we aim to keep our own homes clean, when it comes to civic responsibility, most people fail.
Not often do we see people picking up garbage voluntarily. But recently, a Singaporean mum–along with her two kids– was seen picking garbage off the streets along Lorong 29, Geylang.
Their selfless act was caught on camera by a passerby who shared it on TikTok on November 20. This vide, which was later circulated on Facebook as well, has now gone viral, making this mum a true superwoman!

The original video clip was shared by @mdroslin on TikTok and garnered over 100,000 views in less than a day.
The user happened to notice a woman and her two children, armed with a pair of tongs and plastic bag each–picking litter. The trio was seen outside the Leow Sih Association Building in the Geylang area.
The person who shot the video was heard saying: "I am so embarrassed."
He further said that Singaporeans don't even do this in their own country, and it is the "Mat Salleh," which is a colloquial Malay term used to refer to white people, who are going around keeping the entire community clean and green.
Video Receives Praise From Netizens
The responses below the video were all positive and netizens were clearly appreciative of the actions of the mum and her two kids.
They even praised them for voluntarily picking litter from a public space. In fact, the Internet couldn't stop admiring the woman, (who is assumed to be the mum) for instilling good values in the two kids and also demonstrating excellent parenting skills.
Commentators below the video agreed with the TikTok user's observation that while the woman and the kids could be foreigners, they are the ones who are going around on a weekend doing something that locals might not even consider doing.
Some users said that they have seen the woman and her two kids picking up litter in Balestier as well, and this was surely not the first time, they are doing. They further praised the trio for doing something, which others might consider as dirty as below them.
Some people even wondered how Singaporeans can still litter in public when dustbins are so readily available everywhere.
